It is well known that cave bears (Ursus spelaeus) used caves to spend the long winter months in a state of semi-lethargy. Therefore, it makes sense that they would have left traces when moving around, particularly in the parts of the cave with clay floors. However, it is rare for there to be so many isolated cave bear footprints – including trails of footprints dozens of metres long.
