  • Les campagnes de Jules César dans les Gaules, by Félicien de Saulcy, 1862

In his book, Félicien de Saulcy wanted to identify the geographical locations of Julius Caesar’s eight great campaigns in Gaul. He studied the events of each campaign separately and made in-depth studies of the sites that were thought to have been the setting of these large-scale military actions, to produce what he considered to be a work of military archaeology.
