More than 7,000 coins have been discovered at Lattes. They bear witness to part of the trade relations maintained by the residents of Lattara. We know of no coins in use during the first two centuries of the town's existence. The use of money began in the 4th century BCE, clearly for trade with Mediterranean partners. Although individual coins are rare, three coins caches have been found.

The several thousand Massalian silver coins they contained are likely a reflection of merchant capital used to conduct trade with foreigners. Towards the end of the 3rd century BCE, the first local coin issues appeared, contemporaneous with bronze coins from Marseille, although money was not consistently used by Lattara's residents until the last quarter of the 2nd century BCE. A number of coin types appeared during the 1st century BCE, a time when many cities and towns began minting their own currencies.
