The states financial engagement, totaling a sum of 600 000 a year, helps us to respond to many of the issues posed by this exceptional site, such as;

Favourise research

This commitment is to prioritise a necessarily long-term and diversified research, designed to better understand the biological and climatic landscapes of the cave, and favourise a better understanding of the  phenomena likely to affect it. At the heart of the regional directorate of cultural affairs in Nouvelle Aquitaine, the regional conservation of historical monuments assures the management and conservation of the site.

Contribute to the stability of this fragile ecosystem

Despite being relatively stable, Lascaux caves' ecosystem remains fragile. It's therefore in a perspective of applied research to conservation that the scientific council, presided over by Professor Coppens over the course of deux mandates between 2010-2017, has followed or initiated different research programmes.

The studies carried out over the last ten years have allowed for considerable advances in the knowledge of the cave and its workings, and have raised awareness of the sites environmental sensitivity. If Lascaux Cave is today relatively stable, this does not make it any less fragile and its closure to the public is considered by all as necessary to its conservation.
