At the rear of the ship, in the space located between the first and second decks, three ports provided the officers' quarters with both light and air. These ports, 35 cm tall and 30 cm wide, were located fairly low on the hull and thus could be opened only in calm seas, or when the ship was in port or at anchor. The rest of the time they were closed off by beech shutters.
