First bears of the recess
This impressive bear is drawn with fourteen lines. The muzzle is adjusted a little by stump-drawing. It is recognisably a cave bear from its pronounced stop and heavy forepart. The palaeontological studies that have enabled the sequencing of the species' mitochondrial genome show that its representatives were endangered. The Gravettians could not have drawn this animal is such a precise way, because it no longer existed in the landscape.
