Vulva Panel

On the second level of the Megaloceros Gallery, two small panels face each other at head height. On the right-hand wall, two vulvas have been drawn with the fingers, the surface of the limestone having been made plastic by alteration. These motifs are found throughout the Upper Palaeolithic, whether painted, engraved or even sculpted. At Chauvet around half a dozen can be found concentrated in the deepest parts of the cave. A pisciform sign completes the main topic. A group of lines recalls bear clawmarks, although this might be a human imitation.
