- Lattara and research
- An international training center
Concurrent with the constitution of a collective and multi-disciplinary research group, another goal was to create a training program. Starting in 1968, this was formalized by the establishment of a field-school under the supervision of the Sous-Direction de l’Archéologie du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication (today know as SDARCHETIS).
This training is all-inclusive, and allows participants to develop skills in excavation, vestige removal and data recording. It is open to everyone who would like to begin a career in archaeology.
Lattes is also a practicum field-school for master's-level students at the Université Paul Valéry/Montpellier III majoring in "Human, Territorial and Social Sciences with a minor in Mediterranean Archaeology", and specializing in Mediterranean and African Prehistory, Protohistory and Paleoenvironments.More than a thousand interns have taken part in the Lattes excavations, and many of them have become colleagues. Some, who trained several years ago, are now active players and team leaders in charge of the excavation’s scientific operation.
