Every commune in Champagne has at least one cemetery dating from the 5th century BC and thousands of graves were excavated during the 19th and early 20th centuries. At Acy-Romance, a grain store was destroyed by chalk extraction works 2 km south of “Le Terrage”. A few fragments of jars, including one with a painted decoration of curved lines, were found 1 km to the east. A settlement from that period has been identified at “La Noue Mauroy”, and 400 metres to the west lies a burial ground, with some one hundred graves arranged in rows, discovered during an aerial survey. At Thugny-Trugny, another burial ground has been recorded. At Tagnon, some ten kilometres south of Acy-Romance, a settlement comprising a number of grain stores has been excavated.
