Bison of the Pillar

The deepest part of the End Chamber is marked by the presence of a large rocky pillar separated from the walls. This remarkable surface is occupied by two crossed bison, drawn in black and emphasised by engraving. On the upper bison, two versions of the body can be seen, with the longest appearing disproportionate. The lower bison, which is less detailed, has been partially erased by the passage of bears through the cave. On the panel an alignment of engraved dashes can also be seen, forming an unusual sign and a sketchily engraved mammoth head.
