Structure of the Cactus

On the gallery floor, a circular arrangement of stones attracts the visitor's attention. From the beginning of the research period it has been the subject of dispute: some people see it as a man-made structure, while others attribute it entirely to collapsed blocks. Anthropo-geomorphological study has revealed that although the majority of the structure is of natural origin (resulting from the fall of a stalagmitic floor present on the ceiling); three of the blocks were moved by Palaeolithic people to make the structure more perfectly circular. This action confers a cultural status on the structure, of whose meaning we are unaware. Flint and limestone chips have been found in small fissures in one of the blocks of this structure.
